As world leaders gather in Baku for COP29 Azerbaijan, a coalition of industry associations around the globe, led by the Hydrogen Council, is calling for urgent action to scale demand for hydrogen by 2030 to deliver the Paris climate targets.

Accelerating the implementation of the government policies that drive hydrogen deployment can unlock significant environmental, economic and societal benefits by mid-century:
➡ Abatement of 60-80 gigatons of CO₂
➡ Savings of some $3.7 trillion in capital investments, driven by cross-border supply chains for hydrogen and its derivatives
➡ Creation of some 25 million good-quality jobs worldwide*

This approach highlights the potential of hydrogen to transform the global economy while making a decisive contribution to the fight against climate change.

France Hydrogène, a member of Hydrogen Europe, is joining this initiative and emphasizes that hydrogen is the only alternative to decarbonize many sectors where direct electrification is not feasible.

According to the report from the International Energy Agency, hydrogen production is crucial for the decarbonization of certain heavy industries (chemicals, steel), whose emissions must be reduced by 93% compared to 2020 to achieve carbon neutrality. By 2050, the emissions avoided through the use of decarbonized hydrogen in these sectors could amount to 1 Gt of CO2 per year.

The time for doubt is over; it is now time to turn efforts into action.
